Course description: 14 CEU's and 14 PDA’s Shang Han Lun describes formulas and diseases, yet the description of the 'True Principle” is entirely absent. This leads to repetitive errors. What truly is missing in Chinese medicine is knowing and understanding true principle; why we live, how we live and what for? So for example, many talk about Yang Ming disease, but when asked what Yang Ming is, nobody really knows. The answer is in contemplating the Classics. In this seminar Dr. Seidman will talk about the Principle behind the composition of Shang Han Lun formulae: Yin, Yang, the 6 Conformations or Liu Jing, what is the root of Life and how Life unfolds. To understand physiology in a cosmological sense, we must understand these principles. Dr. Seidman will lecture in detail about each of the 6 Conformations: their respective natures, directional tendencies as they pertain to physiology and the practice of medicine, their functions (opening, pivot, closing) and the meaning of the resolution times given by Zhang Zhong Jing in the Shang Han Lun. For each we will discuss herbal applications from the Shan Han Lun, and the appropriate and timely use of herbs, including Fu Zi. From a deep understanding of the 6 Conformations one can use the flavors and temperature of the herbs in harmony with these movements. From investigating true principle one can understand right treatment. Dr. Seidman will present information that is seldom available in the West. The principles he will discuss are at the root of Classical Chinese medicine and Life in a cosmological sense, and are absolutely fundamental to the practice of both classical herbal medicine and acupuncture. With this solid foundation, the herbal knowledge imparted is extremely practical and clinically oriented: what to use and when, why. We are honored to get Dr. Seidman’s rare visit to the West Coast. This is an incredible opportunity for practitioners and students of the Classics! Using his knowledge of both Eastern and Western medicine, the accomplished acupuncture practitioner invented a treatment that is both forward-looking and grounded in the ancient past. Dr. Seidman, a scholar of Chinese Medicine for the past 20 years, has also studied western health sciences in depth. In 2005, he authored The Hunyuan Method for Fertility-The Chinese Medicine Cure and in 2010 Curing Infertility: The Incredible Hunyuan Breakthrough. In 2012 was accepted as an Associate in Research at Harvard University, Fairbank center for Chinese Studies. A native of Israel, Seidman began his studies in modern Chinese medicine from 1989 until 1993 in Israel and New Zealand. Recognizing the deficiencies in the contemporary approach he resolved to Chinese medicine’s classical approach. In 1994 he moved to Freiburg, Germany to study classical Chinese language and literature, and began taking frequent trips to China to explore the classics. In 1998, while spending six months at China’s Guangxi TCM University, he met professor Liu Lihong, the renowned scholar who became his mentor. With Liu’s help, Seidman set out to rediscover the incredible clinical power of classical Chinese medicine. From 1999-2006 Seidman studied Hunyuan Qigong and inner cultivation methods with Feng Zhiqiang. Feng is one of Dr Hu Yaozhen's (1897—1973) most accomplished disciples. These Hunyuan inner cultivation skills combined with classical Chinese medicine gave birth to the Hunyuan Fertility Method and its remarkable success in treating infertility. Seidman was awarded A Doctor of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine degree by Five Branches University in San Jose, CA, following a 2-year fellowship and a 300-hour IVF clinic internship.
