CLASS DESCRIPTION:
This seminar will present the 6 conformations from the perspective of the Fire Spirit School. The Fire Spirit School (Huo Shen Pai) is famed for its amazing efficacy and supreme mastery of herbal methods, and in particular the subtle use of aconite. They excelled in 6 conformation diagnosis and in the application of Shang Han Za Bing Lun formulae. Fire Spirit School sage Zheng Qinan discussed Zhang Zhong Jing's theories in terms of the circulation of Fire and Water, interacting in various proportions depending on the conformation: Tai Yang, Yang Ming, Shao Yang, Tai Yin, Shao Yin or Jue Jin disease. It can even be said that the entire Shang Han Za Bing Lun is about the relationship of Fire and Water! This perspective is in fact not a novelty of the Fire Spirit School, but rather an expression of their rich understanding of classical physiology, deeply influenced by Yi Jing and Nei Jing theories, and the architecture of classical formulae, as they were used by Zhang Zhong Jing in the Shang Han Za Bing Lun. This class strives to present this clinical framework in a clear and applicable way, in the idea that practitioners will gain proficiency and confidence in prescribing herbs with great precision.
We will explore each conformation in relation to time, physiology, pathology, symptoms, pulse, and for each review or discover the main patterns and formulae. The Fire School perspective truly allows a very clear understanding of the classical pathophysiology, which translates to right treatment. The objective is that each practitioner leave with a deep and thorough sense of correspondence between symptoms, pulses and diagnosis on the one hand, and the composition of formulae on the other hand. Our seminar will include training on the safe and appropriate use of fu zi, which is one the great legacies of the Fire Spirit School.
