Growing and Extraction:
We are proud and happy to source our herbs from Tianjiang Pharmaceutical, the leading herb manufacturer in China and a pioneer in terms of attention to environmentally conscious practices, terroir, traditional processing, and the purity of herbal extracts.
All the herbs are traceable from the seed at the farm to the package on your shelf, as Tianjiang either owns the herb farms or works in close partnership with them. This proximity allows them to have access to the freshest herbs. They are GAP (Good Agricultural Practices) certified, and fight against the extinction of rare and endangered species by cultivating them on a large scale, reserving some of their harvests to repopulate wild habitats. Great attention is paid to growing the herbs in their traditional regions of origin, or in the places where analysis has shown that they grow into the most potent medicine.
Tradition meets modern science at Tianjiang, with ultra modern labs and production facilities, bringing Bronze Age medicine into the 21st century for its survival and widespread use. Their research set the Chinese national and some international standards for herb purity and potency, and they supply a great number of Chinese hospitals. These standards meet or exceed U.S. and E.U. standards of purity.
Formula Architecture:
As explained in more detailed in the section on Classical Formulation, once one has the best ingredients, it also greatly matters how they are put together. Even the finest ingredients can make a mediocre or even sickening dinner, if not properly combined!
Therefore, all our formulae are crafted within the canonical rules of classical formula architecture. All are inspired by formulae of the Shang Han Za Bing Lun, or the greater orb of the Tang Ye Jing Fa style. They are modified using the principles learned and time tested by the lineages Genevieve Le Goff apprenticed in, and guided by the template of the 10 lunar months of gestation (as described in the Tai Chan Shu from Mawangdui).
Furthermore, the herbs we use are gentle. Inspired by the legendary feats of Yi Yin, the Shang dynasty cooking slave who achieved high honorific rank through his complete comprehension of the cosmos and the flavors, we use very gentle, safe herbs and combine them in a synergistic, alchemical way that allows the strength of their inner nature to heal powerfully. In this we modestly try to emulate the example of Zhang Zhong Jing, Tao Hong Jing and other masters.
Right Prescription:
This is up to you! We are available for guidance on how to use our formulae. Please feel welcome to contact us!
For those who are interested in the underlying principles at work, crafting your own formulae and digging deeper, we suggest The Circle of Life training program.
