This stabilizing formula helps to calm the fetus and relax excessive contraction. It nourishes blood, yang, qi and nutritive while giving a container to overactive ministerial fire, thus having a calming and stabilizing effect on the womb.
The uterus pertains to Jueyin, the center of which is ministerial fire, in biao-ben-zhong-qi theory. The Warming and Cooling the Dawn decoctions of the Tang Ye Jing describe the relationship of ministerial fire and nutritive/ying as form begins to manifest in the eastern quadrant. Cooling the Dawn decoctions describe the need to restrain the manifestations of overactive ministerial fire, while Warming the Dawn decoctions describe the need to help effuse qi and ying outward so that they can circulate around the Taiji circle. Sometimes doing both at once is necessary, especially in situations which tax the blood, such as pregnancy. This is the case of this formula. It helps support the ying/nutritive and the qi, while restraining the flares of ministerial fire causing an overactive Uterus.
Differential diagnosis:
- if there are no manifestations of ministerial fire flaring, and only deficiency, Support Life is preferable
- if there is blood stasis, dryness and flaring ministerial fire, Moisten Jueyin is preferable
- for this to be appropriate, the left guan will be wiry or slippery, and there will be tension, or irritability, or sleeplessness. The other positions may be weak or not.
Ingredients: fu xiao mai, da zao, bai shao, chai hu, gui zhi, du zhong, sheng jiang, huang qi, zhi gan cao
